The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Monday, February 14th, declared the professorship of Isa Ali Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria, as illegal.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), through its president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that Pantami is not qualified to be a Professor and should not be treated as such.
The union also moved to sanction the VC of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Professor (Mrs) Nnenna Oti, and others who supported the elevation of Isa Pantami as a professor of cyber security.
Prof Osodeke in his speech during the press conference which was held in Abuja on Monday, said;
“You cannot be a minister and a lecturer in a university. It is an encouragement of illegality. “Pantami has to quit as a minister and be tried for doing double jobs within the same federal system. He is not qualified. Pantami should not be treated as a professor.”
The union moved to other all of her members throughout the federation, not to treat, address, or accord, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami as a professor of cyber security in any form.
The ASUU President also said FUTO Vice Chancellor and members of the union involved in Pantami’s promotion will be sanctioned.
“We have resolved to sanction ASUU members involved in his promotion and the VC of FUTO.”
