The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has been suspended by the International Judo Federation, IJF, as Honorary President. The IJF made the announcement of the suspension on Sunday, Feb. 27, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“In light of the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation announces the suspension of Mr Vladimir Putin’s status as Honorary President and Ambassador of the International Judo Federation.”
What this suspension means for Putin is that he has temporarily lost his most senior official position in world sport.
