Preliminary reports which came in on Sunday morning, January 2, 2022 has confirmed that over a hundred shop at the Okpuno-egbu daily market in Nnewi Anambra state.

LatestNGnews.com gathered through several eyewitness reports that mysterious fire started around 9pm yesterday on New year’s day. Several of the affected shops belonged to food items sellers who have mostly closed for the holidays.
Fire fighters later came through and stopped the fire from spreading further. This is indeed a sad way of starting a new year. Several indigenes reacted to the sad incident saying;

Every year, there’s always a fire disaster. One of the markets in Nnewi caught fire last night. God give those women the heart to bear the loss.
It was gathered that a popular wood market in the metropolitan city of Nnewi, popularly known as “ogbo osisi” was razed down by fire in early 2021, and wooden goods worth millions were lost in the fire incident.
No life was lost in the fire incident, however, several people were left in pains and heartbreak this loosing a full stocked shop to fire outbreak was never a way they imagined to start their new year.
