Update: FRSC Confirms 11 Persons Burnt to Death in the Agulu Lake Boxing Day Accident

Following the accident which rocked the infamous Agulu Lake bridge on Sunday evening, 26th December 2021, the Anambra State Road safety has confirmed that 11 person died from the Accident.

The command confirmed this to newsmen on Monday through a statement by the Sector Public Education Officer, Margret Onabe, which reads; 


“A fatal Road traffic crash Occurred at Agulu lake bridge by Awka-Ekwulobia Road today, 26th December, 2021.The crash involved three vehicles. Probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking and excessive speed”.


A dispatch of the commands operatives from Nnanka were on ground managing the situation, diverting traffic because the bridge was blocked and effort was being made to evacuate the burnt bodies, and a tow truck to clear the obstruction caused by the crash.


The FRSC confirmed that 20 people were involved in the crash. Those injured were 4 comprising 2 male adults and 2 female adults. The number of persons killed 11; 3 male adults, 1 female child and 7 people who were trapped inside the L300 bus and burnt beyond recognition.


Another eyewitness who spoke in anonymity to LatestNGnews.com later in the evening confirmed that accident was caused by the driver of the L300 who was on top speed and was trying to overtake a tipper from the wrong lane. The bus collided with the Mack truck, and the shuttle bus ran into the already collided vehicles.


Meanwhile, the FRSC command also commended the efforts of well meaning Nigerians who played hero to rescue 5 passengers alive from the hijet bus.
