The National Universities Commission has ranked the University of Ibadan as the Best University in Nigeria 2021 after the school came first out of 113 universities across the country which were ranked using 12 indicators.

The NUC’s latest 2021 rankings of best Universities in Nigeria, was released Monday by the lead presenter, Prof. Peter Okebukola, who disclosed this in Abuja at a capacity building workshop, which was organized by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The theme if the workshop was on improving the ranking of public universities in Nigeria.
The institutions were ranked based on total number of full-time students, number of international students, students and staff ratio, efficiency, google scholar index and contribution to knowledge economy – he said.

Other criteria were percentage of international staff, programmes with full time accreditation, all citation per capital, among others, In his words;
“You cannot get any form of ranking system in the whole wide world that does what Nigeria has done.
For this 2021 edition, based on the 12 indicators that we have developed, the University of Ibadan is the first followed by Federal University of Technology Akure,”
He added many Nigerian universities did not show up for the ranking, and he urging them to partake in the next one.
