A 24-year-old pregnant guardian whose name was given as Mrs. Abigail Eguta, has been arrested in Anambra State for beating and injuring her seven-year-old ward, whose name was given as Sunday, for eating eating fish and failing to recite the English alphabet.

 

 

The woman was apprehended after concerned neighbours took the child victim, to the office of the Anambra state women and social welfare commissioner, Ify Obinabo, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

 

Sunday is said to be the son of Mrs. Eguta’s biological sister who she brought him to live with her barely a year ago.

 

 

The boy, whose body is dotted with scars of previous injuries allegedly inflicted on him by his guardian, had been out of school for a long time.

 

 

Mrs. Eguta claimed she beat the boy for eating the fish she bought for Sunday meal. She also confessed to beating him on Monday, for not reciting the English alphabet correctly, adding that it was the main reason she wounded him. In her words, the pregnant woman said;

 

“I am very sorry. I didn’t intend to blind him or beat him in the eyes, but I mistakenly did so. Please, forgive me, it is the handiwork of the devil,”
