27-year old Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu has made history to become the first Nigerian to win a Golden Shoe Award after he emerged the the Belgian league’s best player for 2021.

The KRC Genk striker made history last night as he became to first Nigerian to win the award and the fourth African to claim the prestigious honour,
The 1A Pro League Golden boot has been won 4 times by 3 African footballers, Aruna Dindane (Ivory Coast, 2003), Dieumerci Mbokani (Democratic Republic of Congo, 2012) with Mbark Boussoufa (Morocco, 2006 and 2010), and now, Paul Onuachu has written his name in the history books.

The win on Wednesday night, also saw him become the third Genk player in history to be named Belgium’s best and the first in 20 years,
after he finished in third place for the Golden Shoe last year, coming behind winner Israeli star Lior Refaelov and second-placed Raphael Holzhauser.
Paul is currently recovering from an injury that kept him out of the Nigerian squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
