Nollywood star and comedian, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has opened up on the plans he has for the Nigerian comedy Industry which will potentially help young comedians who’re coming into the industry.
The comic actor revealed this in an exclusive chat with The Nation, saying that wished he could change the industry by giving it a structure and encouraging upcoming to be more original and authentic.
In his words, the 53 years old award wining actor said;
“If I had the opportunity to change something in the stand-up comedy industry, one of them will be to organise us a little bit more, so that there is some kind of structure that will help young people because when things are structured, they run better you know and it will help young people further embrace this thing as a profession and for them to be taken more seriously,”
Continuing, Bakassi said, “Another one will be to encourage people to be a bit original and responsible in how they carry on this special art form because if you ask me in the entertainment industry stand up comedy is the toughest art form in the business. It is you, the microphone, and the audience.
There is little margin for error. With music, you can have instrumentalists correct you, with movies and acting, there is editing, with sports, there is teamwork. Stand-up comedy is you, the microphone, and if you are having a bad day, God help you.”
