NFF Boss, Amaju Pinnick, says Augustine Eguavoen is Only Entitled to Receive Match Bonuses, will not Earn Salary

President of the NFF Amaju Pinnick, has said that Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen will only be receiving his match bonuses and will not be earning salary despite an impressive performance at the ongoing AFCON 2021 tournament.

Pinnick made this statement recently during an interview on Arise TV. He maintained that coach Eguavoen was appointed on a short-term deal after the Nigeria Football Federation sacked Gernot Rohr in December., thus as an interim coach, he won’t be receiving any salary for the role he is playing.

In his words, NFF boss Amaju Pinnick said;

“Eguavoen is on the payroll of the NFF and he won’t be entitled to salary for the role he is playing as an interim coach of the team,” “He will be entitled to the winning bonuses as the team progresses at the tournament.”

Eguavoen is the only coach at the 2021AFCON tournament who won all three group stage matches, with 9 points and 6 goals, while conceding only 1.

He became the Super Eagles interim coach after NFF sacked Gernot Rohr who was Nigeria’s longest-serving manager (from 2016-2021) led the team to the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs and sealing a spot at the Nations Cup in Cameroun.

While reacting to the news, Pastor Reno Omokri asked NFF to consider paying coach Eguavoen since he’s already doing a stellar job, in his words; Reno Omokri wrote;

Meanwhile, on a serious note, our NFF should consider paying Augustine Eguavoen the same mega bucks they paid Gernot Rohr. We cant pay Rohr millions for delivering failure and pay Eguavoen less for delivering success. My people, do I speak well in this?
