Kenyan Police Officer, Abel Kemboi, Commits Suicide over Delayed Payment of December Salary

A Kenyan Police Officer whose name was given as Abel Kemboi, has reportedly taken his own life by hanging himself after he experienced another delayed payment of salary in December.

No one knew exactly when he took his own life, but his lifeless body was found on the evening of Wednesday, January 5, 2022 after he had complained several times to them about his salary being delayed again.

 
 

His friends confirmed that Abel had previously taken the issue of delayed payment of salary to his boss at Kakamega Police Station, and was already planning to go again this new year, with a cousin brother of his whose name given as Zacheaus Kalama.

 
 

Zacheaus revealed that he woke up and headed to Abel’s house, but on getting there, he found the door locked from inside. He knocked several times but got no response

He continued by saying that he broke into the house and saw that Kemboi had hanged himself. He noted that his late cousin had show signs of being depressed earlier.

 
 

Kalama said;

“We had agreed to go to the station to inquire the cause of the salary delay from his bosses but it was shocking that he took his own life even before we achieved our mission. “He had hanged himself and I did not believe what I saw.”

 
 

The deceased’s immediate boss and Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena also confirmed that he was always depressed. Kabena said that they had already launched investigations to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

 
 
 

In addition, he urged officers with any underlying mental issues to seek expert attention. Kemboi’s body was taken to Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
