Isa Pantami Fake Professorship — FUTO VC, sues ASUU For Rejecting to Recognize the Minister as a Professor in Cyber Security

ASUU Declares Isa Pantamis Professorship as illegal

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri, through the office of the VC, Professor (Mrs.) Nnenna Oti, has rejected the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to recognize the minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria, Isa Pantami, as a professor.

This is coming barely 24hrs, ASUU through it’s president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, declared that Isa Pantami isn’t qualified to be a professor, ordering all necessary offices and institutions not to recognize him as one, adding that the academic union will sanction FUTO vc and anyone who supported Pantami to be issued a professorship which he didn’t merit

Reacting to the news, FUTO VC, Prof. Nnenna Oti, challenged this decision, revealing to TheNation news that Isa Pantami is a merited professor of Cyber Security which is fully backed by the institution.

Countering the words of Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, that Pantami cannot be a serving Minister and a school will issue him a professorship, FUTO VC, Prof. Nnenna Oti, said that the management went to court on the matter, and got a court approval for Pantami to get professorship award, while he is still in Federal Government’s active service as a minister, adding that any comment or discussion on it is subjudice.

But a senior management worker, who spoke in confidence, claimed that ASUU has no right to dabble into a matter it has no jurisdiction over.

“Just like ASUU does not tell the university council and its Senate who to promote, it cannot tell them the criteria for promoting somebody to rank of professor.

In law, you cannot withdraw what you don’t have. ASUU does not regulate appointments and promotions. Some of these things are derived from NUC guidelines, and every university sets up its standard,” the source said.
