Fire Kills 3 Kids in Benue While They Were Sleeping

Three members of a family have been reportedly burnt to death while they were asleep at their home in Otukpo, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue state.

Through social media posts, it was gathered that the unfortunate  incident that claimed the lives of these family members, happened around 1-midnight, on Friday December 17.

 

Mr Ochoche Ode, the father of the family who lived in a two-bedroom flat at the Jesus College Quarters, said that the fire was noticed at midnight by his wife’s younger sister who perceived that something was burning while three of his children were asleep.

 
 
 

According to Ode, he said that he was in one of the rooms with his wife when his sister in-law and the neighbors alerted of them of the incident. In his words;

 
 

“As I was about to find out what was happening, the fire escalated, covering the whole room where my kids were sleeping and in an attempt to force myself into the room to rescue the children, my face got badly burnt.

All attempts by neighbours to put out the fire failed and all my three children were burnt to death,”

 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident on Friday in Makurdi.
