The family, relatives , friends, colleagues, villagers and well wishers of the Late Dr Chike Akunyili have all gathered in Agulu today to pay their last respect to the good doctor, who was gruesomely murdered my unknown assailants, 2 months ago, in Nkpor, Onitsha Anambra State

His body was briefly stopped at the Agulu Town Hall for laying in state, before he was taken to his compound for a proper lay in state.

By 10:00am, the body arrived Madonna Catholic Church in Agulu for a Pontifical Requiem Mass after which he will be taken to his country home to be committed to Mother Earth.

Present in The Pontifical Requiem Mass were the newly appointed bishop of Nnewi Catholic Diocese, Bishop Jonas Benson Okoye and several other Roman Catholic clergies and lay faithful.

 
 
 
 
Due his status as a Papal Knight in the Roman Catholic Church, a pontifical mass was held in his honour  at the Christ the King Parish in Enugu, in which a prayer of of repose was said for him, late Dr. Chike Akunyili.

Former Anambra State Governor Mr. Peter Obi, who is a personal and close friend to the late Dr Chike, Former first lady of Anambr State, Mrs Margaret Obi and other dignitaries were present at the event with Dr. Akunyili’s children who returned to Nigeria to lay their father to rest.
