Building Under Construction in Ikoyi Collapses (Photos + Videos)

A 21-storey- Building Under Construction in Ikoyi Collapsed yesterday 1st Nov. 2021 while workers were still inside. The unfortunate gathered large crowd in the area some of whom were reported to be relatives to the workers.

There was a quick response by the Men of the Federal, state Fire Services and Rescue Team and men of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, were also seen at the scene of the incident to rescue those trapped. Director General, LASEMA Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu while confirming the incident said the following, 

 
 

“All first responders are en route to secure the scene while the heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.”

It was later discovered through various channels that the same Ikoyi building that collapsed was previously sealed by Governor Sanwo-Olu around mid-2020 in order to “prevent calamity” and possible loss of life and injuries.

Some workers who spoke to the newsmen in anonymity disclosed that the Engineering company that was formerly handling the construction project on the said collapsed Ikoyi building, withdrew its consultancy service over a year ago because it couldn’t guarantee the integrity of the building.
