Commercial activities came to a pause today across major commercial cities of Anambra state, stating from Onitsha, all the way to Awka, the capital city of Anambra state and down to Nnewi, a.k.a, the Japan of Africa.

Roads leading to other commercial towns like Ekwulobia, Oba, Nibo, etc, where all deserted, while some remote ones were turned into a mini football pitch for playing soccer and other recreational activities by residents.

Findings by our correspondents, who visited some major cities, observed that banks, motor parks, filling stations, markets and shops were shut.

The roads were also empty as vehicles did not ply, even the numerous police and military checkpoints were empty.

Residents of Nnewi South who spoke to one of our correspondent in anonymity said they wanted to use the holiday to go and resgister for PVC but the local government secretariat in their town was shut.

Checks by our team also confirmed that the Nnewi and Ekusigo local government secretariat offices were closed today.
