Alex Iwobi to miss 2022 World Cup Playoff Against Ghana due to AFCON Read Card

Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi will be excluded from the Qatar 2022 Worldcup playoffs between Nigeria and Ghana in in March. Iwobi picked up a red card shortly after he on as substitute in the 2nd half of the game.



Senegalese referee, Maguette N’Diaye, had initially shown a yellow card for the foul.


However, he was advised by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to check the pitch-side monitor, after which he upgraded the yellow to a red.



The Everton winger who started his career at Arsenal, is now suspended for the Super Eagles’ next fixtures on the continent, which is incidentally against the Black Stars.


Nigeria are away in the first leg, before hosting their West African rivals in the return leg.
